Castrads Period Cast Iron Radiators manufacture traditional cast iron radiators in the old fashioned sand mould way. The casting is done abroad to keep costs low. Cast iron radiators include;
Victorian cast iron radiator. Often used to describe 4 column cast iron radiators, though most were cast in Edwardian and later times. Ideal Standard was perhaps the largest British manufacturer. All cast iron radiator manufacture in the UK had ceased by the 1970's. This style of radiator is the more traditional radiator style most commonly installed in pre '50s housing
Art Deco cast iron radiator. The Art Deco period, 1920 to 1939, is characterised by mainly straight lines with a few curves. The date and design would mostly apply to a column cast iron radiator, though not exclusively to column cast iron radiators. This contrasts with the Art Nouveau period, 1880 to 1914, which is characterised by very few straight lines.
Ornate cast iron radiator, This is a general term for a cast iron radiator with embossed designs. Cast iron radiators such as The King and Queen would be classed as ornate. Art Nouveau cast iron radiators would also be classed as ornate
Column cast iron radiator. This term applies to a family of cast iron radiators. Examples are the 3 column cast iron radiator, through 4, 5 6 and 9 column cast iron radiator
Old cast iron radiator. This is a general term to mean any style of cast iron radiator
Reproduction cast iron radiator. All Castrads cast iron radiators are reproductions of earlier cast iron radiator designs.
Retro cast iron radiator. Retro is a relatively new term to describe a cast iron radiator from a bygone era. Retro cast iron radiators can be column cast iron radiators or decorative cast iron radiators.
School cast iron radiator. The school cast iron radiator was made by Ideal Standard until the 1970's. It was designed to not give lots of nooks and crannies for dust to hide so was popular in both schools and hospitals. Castrads does not offer a reproduction cast iron radiator of this style.
Princess cast iron radiator. This is a style of cast iron radiator that Castrads will be offering soon. The Princess cast iron radiator is similar to The Queen cast iron radiator but has a plain surface with no embellishment. As such it is an amalgamation of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
Decorative cast iron radiator. This type of cast iron radiator can also be termed an Art Nouveau cast iron radiator and is typical of the Art Nouveau period, 1880 to 1914. Castrads' King, Queen and Prince would fall into this category of cast iron radiator.
