Castrads Period Cast Iron Radiators manufacture traditional cast iron radiators in the old fashioned sand mould way. The casting is done abroad to keep costs low. Cast iron rads include;
Victorian cast iron radiator. Often used to describe 4 column cast iron radiators, though most were cast in Edwardian and later times. Ideal Standard was perhaps the largest British manufacturer. All cast iron radiator manufacturer in the UK had ceased by the 1970's. This style of cast iron rad is a column radiator a more traditional radiator style. Column radiators were most commonly installed in pre '50s housing.
Art Deco cast iron radiator. The Art Deco period, 1920 to 1939, is characterised by mainly straight lines with a few curves. The date and design would mostly apply to a column radiator, though not exclusively to column radiators. Edwardian radiators are of this period. This contrasts with the Art Nouveau period, 1880 to 1914, which is characterised by very few straight lines, unlike an Edwardian radiator.
Ornate cast iron radiator. In Castrads' view these are the real Victorian radiators. A Victorian radiator is one that comes from the period when fashion dictated an intricate design. Cast iron radiators such as The King and Queen would be classed as Victorian radiators. The Prince is also a Victorian rad. Art Nouveau cast iron radiators should also be classed as Victorian rads
Column radiator. This term applies to a family of cast iron radiators. Examples are the 2 column cast iron radiator, through 3 column radiators, 4 column radiators, 5 column radiator, 6 column radiator and 9 column radiators. Castrads column radiators are not to be confused with steel column rads
Old cast iron radiator. This is a general term to mean any style of cast iron radiator which is an old radiator. Old radiators are often cast iron rads but old radiators can be in other materials.
Reproduction cast iron radiator. The Castrads range is reproduction radiators. A reproduction radiator is also called a repro radiator. Reproduction radiators are made in the same old way as the original old radiators.
Retro radiator. Retro is a relatively new term to describe an old cast iron radiator from a bygone era. Retro radiators can be column radiators or Victorian radiators of decorative design.
School radiator. The school radiators were made by Ideal Standard until the 1970's. Old school radiators were designed to not give lots of nooks and crannies for dust to hide. It was popular in both schools and hospitals. Castrads Princess is a faithful reproduction old school radiator.
Princess cast iron radiator. The Princess cast iron radiator is a School radiator similar to The Queen cast iron radiator but has a plain surface with no embellishment. As such it is an amalgamation of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
Decorative cast iron radiator. This type of cast iron radiator can also be termed an Art Nouveau cast iron radiator and is typical of the Art Nouveau period, 1880 to 1914. Castrads' King, Queen and Prince would fall into this category of cast iron radiator.
Classic radiators comprise all types of cast iron radiator. The term classic radiator means column radiator to some and the embossed variety to others. All Castrads cast iron radiators are classic radiators.
