Castrads has decided after much deliberation to reduce the number of thermostatic radiator valves on sale. The company has found some interesting results over months of research. Contrary to appreciating a more diverse range, it seems our customers would prefer to select a suitable thermostatic radiator valve from a range of carefully chosen traditional style valves suited specifically to cast iron radiators.
Castrads will no longer be selling Windsor Polished Nickel TRV, or any of the three Windsor Antique possibilities. We still have a limited number of Windsor Antique Brass TRV available at an incredible sale price of just £59 exc VAT.
Our high end range of valves for cast iron radiators is the Chopin, available in Polished Brass, Polished Nickel and Satin Nickel finishes. Available to buy online at just £99 per pair, including shrouds and base plates. These are an excellent quality valve and will fit all of Castrads’ traditional radiator models.
We hope that our customers will benefit from our reconfigured range of valves, so please do let us know how we’re doing on our new Facebook page.

Cast Iron Radiators Heat Kew Gardens
Yesterday was a splendid day for a stroll around the park, and where better to go than Kew Gardens? The author of this post is very interested in tropical plants, and was strolling around the Palm House when I noticed that the entire Victorian glasshouse is heated by an enormous array of cast iron radiators. The radiators are sunk below the walkways of the world renowned structure, and run the entire length of the building. From a distance they appeared to be originals, possibly not changed since the building’s completion in 1848. That really is Victorian radiator.
Later on I was pottering around the Temperate House which contains plants that are adapted to life in the temperate zones of the globe. I was particularly thrilled with a beautiful and rare Passiflora in full bloom. I soon noticed that this too was heated by beautifully staunch column radiators. The central heating configuration is more conventional in the Temperate House though, lining the walls much like an old school library and in plain view.
Perhaps one day Kew Gardens will need to call on Castrads’ to supply some new cast iron radiators. I certainly hope so.
New Paint for Cast Iron Radiators
At Castrads, we have been using a specialist Alkyd Resin paint to spray our cast iron radiators. While it is a durable and heat proof medium, we’ve been trialling new paints that are much quicker to lose that “new” smell
After much testing Castrads has developed a new type of paint which is entirely odour free after just 3 warm up/cool down cycles, and gives a thicker paint film that leaves a smoother finish. Castrads is now trying improved baking procedures to reduce odour further. See colours & finishes for our stock colour options.

Castrads
After a rather long hiatus, we can now meet demand for our unique hooked wall stays, designed and made exclusively for Castrads. Also just arrived are the Rococo 950. Tall and slim, these French-scrolled ornate cast iron radiators suit hallways and smaller rooms.
Today we have added a new function to Castrads.com. Our customers can now find a plumber to fit our cast iron radiators. It’s still very early stages, and even the most optimistic commentator would admit that at the moment the selection is somewhat thin on the ground, but we are in the process of contacting the myriad plumbers we have worked with over the years.
Eventually we hope to have a comprehensive database of plumbers in all regions of Great Britain. The plumbers listed have all had experience fitting Castrads’ cast iron radiators, and have done a good job according to their customers – we know because we’ve checked!
If you’re a plumber and have fitted our traditional radiators, please do get in touch so that we can add you to our database.

2 Column 750 Cast Iron Radiators
2 Column 750mm cast iron radiators are currently sold out in Off White, but we still have plenty available in any of our other colours.
Castrads holds stock of 29 different models of traditional cast radiators, and most of those models are available in either Pewter or F&B Pointing at no extra cost. Cast iron is a naturally rough surface and notoriously difficult to paint. At Castrads we have many years’ experience of achieving excellent painted finishes on cast iron radiators. We recently invested in a second professional spray booth to meet growing demand.
In order to give light coloured radiators a smooth finish, we prefer to spray our standard off white (Farrow & Ball Pointing) straight on to a powder coated finish, rather than a primed cast iron finish as with most other colours. This results in a smoother paint finish and better coverage.
We ran out of stock of powder coated 2 column 750mm radiators last week, and the smooth F&B Pointing finish is accordingly unavailable until new stock arrives late this month. Please do stay tuned for regular updates on our stock, sales and other events, or subscribe to our RSS feed.

Summer is the time to buy
Do you have your heating on at the moment? I should imagine that the answer is probably no. When installing new radiators the central heating system will usually need to be drained, this of course means no heating for the duration of the work. That’s why now is the perfect time to buy your cast iron radiators.
Castrads sells cast iron radiators in your choice of style, size and colour available to buy online from our radiator builder. We assemble, pressure test and spray the radiators, before baking them to 100ºC (to harden the paint) right here in the UK at our Manchester HQ. We aim to have all orders dispatched from our premises within 7 days of taking an order.
Need a radiator quick? Castrads’ Rads2Go are assembled, painted, tested and ready to be dispatched, usually for delivery within 2-3 days of order confirmation.
Don’t wait until winter to replace your old radiators, buy now from Castrads.com.
Putting the heat on at Westminster Abbey
The Dean’s Office at Westminster Abbey now has a brand new cast iron radiator. We’ve supplied a rather large Duchess 780 in Satin Black that proudly stands just behind the Dean’s desk.
