NEW Castrads is now using a special low odour paint. This eliminates most of the “new” smell when the radiator is first connected to your central heating system.
All radiators are also available in Full Polish at £30 per section except The Duchess, Rococo, Cherub and Baron which are available in Full Polish at a lower cost.
Lead time is the standard 7 days for any sprayed paint finish (standard stock colours only). For powder coating it is 16 days. All spray colours are baked at 100°C to ensure a tough finish. The exact colour of the Off White powder coat is Farrow and Ball's Pointing 2003. Powder Coat is a tough polyester finish baked on at 200°C. Read about Powder Coating. Please note that if you have your radiator powder coated by a 3rd party this invalidates the 10 year guarantee.
The spray paint colours shown above are kept in stock.
Any standard Farrow & Ball, RAL or British Standard colour can be used to spray your cast iron radiator, but there is a £40 charge for paint bought in specially. This charge is waived on larger orders of 40 sections or more. Where your colour choice is close to one already in stock, Castrads will offer that instead to avoid this charge. All prices are plus VAT.
Painting cast iron radiators
Castrads uses a two-pack paint, which dries by the addition of a hardener. Thanks to our committed team of finishing technicians, we're able to spray cast iron radiators in a vast range of colours; gloss, matt or eggshell.
If painting cast iron radiators at home, first remove the old paint. Sand blasting is the easiest way to do this but does require specialist equipment. Chemical stripping is not suitable for cast iron radiators, since it risks damaging the gaskets that form a seal between each section. Wire brushing or sand paper are more laborious but effective methods.
The next step is to prime the radiator. Use a light coloured primer for light coloured top coats and a dark primer for dark top coats.
Aerosol paint is by far the easiest way to apply the top coat, and gives the most even finish. Using a brush to paint in between the sections of a cast iron radiator is not an easy task. Castrads can supply paint, please call 0161 2970015 to order. Alternatively use radiator paints available in most hardware shops; Plastikote and Hammerite both have suitable products.
